Academy Players of the Week for the Week of May 10
Club: Cal Odyssey
Daniel Flores turned in a quality performance last weekend as he scored two goals in Cal Odyssey’s 4-1 home victory against California Development Academy. More impressive than Flores’ match-winning efforts is the fact that he just returned from an ACL injury in March. Despite this, Flores has been consistently noted for his passing, aerial ability and knack for goal.
Cal Odyssey currently sits atop the Northwest Division on 25 points, level with California Development Academy, although having played three games less. With positive results in their final three divisional games, Cal Odyssey is in good position to be among the participants in the Playoffs next month.
Club: Indiana United Academy
Nikita Kotlov helped Indiana United Academy to a 4-0 away win against divisional opponent Internationals last weekend by scoring a goal late in the first half. The goal brought him to eight on the year, and his performance was noted for a good work ethic and excellent decision making. Kotlov has verbally committed to Indiana University to play soccer in the Big Ten next fall.
Indiana United is in second place in the Great Lakes Division with four divisional games remaining. Their final four games include key contests with Crew Soccer Academy and Derby County Wolves. While they do control their ability to qualify for the Playoffs automatically, the team’s 2.57 points per game average also puts them in a strong position for a wild card berth.
