U.S. Soccer Coaching Symposium To Be Held On Nov. 26-27 In Conjunction With U.S. U-20 MNT Matches in Kennesaw, Ga.

CHICAGO (Nov 2, 2010) – U.S. Soccer’s Coaching Education Department will conduct a Coaching Symposium on Nov. 26-27 in conjunction with the U-20 Men’s National Team’s participation in the Torneo de las Americas in Kennesaw, Ga. at the Kennesaw State University Soccer  Stadium (KSU). The U-20 MNT is scheduled to play against traditional South American power Colombia and border rival Mexico.

“This is an important time for the U-20s and this event will give head coach Thomas Rongen a good opportunity to evaluate where his team stands prior to the CONCACAF U-20 Championship next April in Guatemala,” said U.S. Soccer Technical Advisor Juan Carlos Michia.

The two-day symposium will offer coaches an opportunity to interact with U.S. Soccer’s U-20 MNT coaching staff and view and listen to how they prepare their squad for this event. Michia will lead the symposium, which will focus on the team’s preparation for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

“This is a unique opportunity for coaches to get an inside look at how our team is preparing for these two strong opponents. These events are important for coaches to attend as it allows good learning opportunities and discussions,” said Rongen.

On Nov. 26, coaches will spend time with members of the U-20 MNT coaching staff and attend the match against Colombia. Following the match, a breakdown of the game will be provided by a member of the coaching staff.

On Nov. 27, coaches will attend a closed-door training session lead by Rongen as they prepare for Mexico. This is coach Rongen’s fourth FIFA U-20 World Cup cycle after guiding the team in 2003, 2007 and 2009.

Cost for the symposium is $80 for active U.S. Soccer CoachesNet members and $90 for non-members. The registration fee includes a ticket to the U.S. U-20 MNT match versus Colombia on Nov. 26 and Mexico vs. Colombia on Nov. 27.  Registration is open to all coaches. Space is limited and interested coaches are encouraged to register early.

U.S. Soccer “A” licensed coaches will earn two “Continuing Education Units” for attending the two-day symposium.
