U.S. U-15 BNT Finishes in Fifth Place at 2012 International Marveld Tournament

CHICAGO (June 12, 2012) – The U.S. Under-15 Boys’ National Team finished in fifth place at the 2012 International Marveld Tournament in Groenlo, Netherlands.

The U.S. played seven matches, including two friendlies prior to the tournament against Feyenoord and Vitesse. During the tournament proper, matches were played with two 20-minute halves.

The U.S. kicked off the trip with a 5-0 win against Feyenoord on May 26 and a 4-2 win against Vitesse on May 29.

At the Marveld Tournament, the U.S. opened with a 1-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen on June 1. But U.S. Head coach Tony Lepore then led his team to a 2-0 win against Real Madrid that same day.

On June 2, the U.S. started off the day with a 1-1 tie against Ajax before falling 4-2 to Feyenoord. The team finished the day with a 1-0 win against F.C. Twente. The U.S. defeated Liverpool 3-0 on June 3 and faced Ajax for fifth place. The teams tied 0-0 in regulation before the U.S. win the penalty kick shootout 4-2 as Malcom Dixon, Max Steigward, Mukwelle Akale and Coy Craft all scored their penalty kick.
