U.S. U-17 WNT Downs University of Miami in Sunrise, Fla.

SUNRISE, Fla. (April 16, 2008) - The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team downed the University of Miami by a 3-0 score during its week-long training camp in Sunrise, Fla. that ended on April 16. The Mewis sisters, Kristen and Samantha, each tallied once, with Kristen assisting on Samantha’s goal, while Rachel Nunzzolese tallied the final goal, finishing a rebound of her own shot. The U-17s out-shot Miami 14-3.

The U.S. is continuing preparations for the CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship to be played from July 17-26 in Trinidad & Tobago with the top three teams advancing to the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand, to be held from Oct. 28-Nov. 16, 2008. The group stages will be played at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago and at Marvin Lee Stadium in Tunapuna.

The semifinals and finals will be played at Marvin Lee Stadium. The eight-team tournament will include the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Jamaica and Puerto Rico, as well as host Trinidad & Tobago. The draw to determine groups for the first round of the tournament will be announced at a later date.
