Late Heroics Abound in MLS on Saturday

CHICAGO (Monday, May 5, 2001) - There were several fantastic finishes in MLS on Saturday. Midfielder Petter Villegas scored a dramatic last minute goal as the MetroStars mounted a three-goal comeback in 11 minutes to defeat D.C. United 3-2 at Giants Stadium. Paul Bravo came off the bench to score in the 87th minute as Colorado won for the first time in 2001, downing Dallas 1-0 at the Cotton Bowl. San Jose outlasted New England 3-2, despite two Revs goals in the final three minutes of play at Spartan Stadium. Danny Califf scored in overtime as Los Angeles downed Kansas City 2-1 at the Rose Bowl. In other action: Eric Wynalda, traded last Thursday to the Fire, scored the second goal in the Fire's 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Mutiny at Soldier Field. The Miami Fusion and the Columbus Crew reached a stalemate at Crew Stadium Saturday afternoon, playing to a scoreless draw.
