U.S. Captain Christie Rampone Undergoes Minor Knee Surgery

World Most Capped Active Player Will be Out 4-6 Weeks

CHICAGO (Sept. 4, 2013) – U.S. Women’s National Team captain Christie Rampone underwent an arthroscopic surgery on her right knee today in New Jersey to clean up some loose bodies that were causing her irritation during the NWSL season.

Rampone started and played 51 minutes Tuesday night against Mexico in Washington, D.C. as the USA defeated Mexico, 7-0. As captain of Sky Blue FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, Rampone played every minute of 20 matches while helping her club to the playoffs.

Rampone, who has the most caps of any active player in the world, played in her 284th game for the USA against Mexico. The U.S. Women’s National Team has begun a six-week break and will not get together again until mid-October.
