Dates and Locations Set for 2011 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship

• Event, to be held in Jamaica from Feb. 12-28, Will Qualify Four Teams to the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup

CHICAGO (Sept. 2, 2010) – The U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team has learned the dates and location for the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which will be held from Feb. 12-28 in Jamaica.

The event will qualify four teams to the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico from June 18-July 10. As hosts, Mexico receives an automatic berth to the event, meaning a total of five teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean will participate.

The CONCACAF U-17 and U-20 Championships will be played as 12-team events for the first time since 1996. Jamaica last hosted a final-round qualifying group at the U-17 level in 2007, where the U.S. took the top place to advance to the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Korea Republic.

At the 2009 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Tijuana, Mexico, the U.S. won all three of its group games before the semifinals and final were cancelled due to H1N1 virus concerns.
