Post-Match Quotes: WNT 3, Canada 0

U.S. head coach PIA SUNDHAGE
 On the match:
"We have a long way to go to put this together but the energy and the attack was excellent tonight and it was contagious among all the players out there. This is a great stadium and a great crowd and we were inspired just being here. You can't beat it. It's like a 12th player."

On not scoring a goal in the first half despite dominating play:
“In the locker room at half I told them that it's not the end of the world that we didn't get a goal," said Sundhage. "The main thing is to have courage to have the patience and this will result in goals, but I am very happy about the performance and I think it is the beginning of something unique."

U.S. forward ABBY WAMBACH
On the victory:
“You want to finish every season off on a positive note. We didn’t get the World Cup back but this tour gave us something to celebrate. The way we played and scored gave Portland something to cheer about.”

On the new formation:
“This new formation is just something we got to keep working on. Megan (Rapinoe) is a great player and a creative player and having her being in a different position will affect how crosses come, but her new role gets us more shots.”

On Portland:
“I love Portland. The fans are knowledgeable soccer people and it makes you play harder. With 18,000 you could feel it and it made me play harder.”

U.S. midfielder MEGAN RAPINOE
On her two shots that hit the woodwork:
“I don’t know how you chip a ball within the six (and hit the crossbar) but I did it and I thought the other one was going to drop. But it was good we were creating chances and we got the three in the end and that’s all that matters.”

On the atmosphere at the stadium:
“Seeing part of the Timbers game last night and then coming here today and being able to get into the game, the crowd was eccentric. I love football and this and is why I play. I love interacting with the crowd, the support and this kind of energy. It just changes the game for me and it makes it that more special.”

On looking to the future for the U.S. team:
“I feel really good. This new system is fun and the players are interacting more on the field. It’s exciting.“

U.S. defender STEPHANIE COX
On the night:
“This crowd was great and it felt really good to get a 3-0 win. This is the best crowd in the nation, the pitch was awesome and the weather was great.  When we scored you couldn’t even hear yourself. They were as excited as us to put some goals away.”

On being back in Portland where she played her college soccer:
“I’m so proud to play here in Portland and when they announced the three of us that went to University of Portland, the crowd was just great. You just have pride that the fans respect and they feel that we are their own.”

U.S. defender CHRISTIE RAMPONE
On this being a key time in the team’s development:
“I think that were still growing as a national team and raising the bar. We still have more to give after we let it slip away at the World Cup. It’s time to dig a little deeper, get the mentality back and get the fight back as well as working on new systems and being coachable and open and not being stuck in the traditional American style. We just had a long season and only had two and half weeks off, but we still have more to work to do in the system.”
