CHICAGO (Sept. 24, 2010) – U.S. Soccer’s CoachesNet will conduct international educational workshops in Brazil and Germany/Netherlands in 2011 as part of U.S. Soccer’s international coaching education program in an effort to continue providing unique coaching opportunities to its membership.
Entering its third year, the aim of U.S. Soccer’s international coaching education program is to expose U.S. coaches to other federations and clubs to help them develop their coaches and players. Attendees interact directly with top-level coaches, administrators and players from some of the best clubs and countries in the world. Information about the trip to Germany/Netherlands will be available in the near future.
“We began offering these types of educational trips so our coaches could see first-hand how the rest of world is developing its players and coaches,†explains Technical Advisor Juan Carlos Michia. “It is not very often a coach has the chance to visit a top club and spend a day watching different age groups train and then speak with their coaches and listen to lectures on how they develop players.â€
Both workshops offer a unique perspective as the two countries are preparing to host a FIFA World Cup. Germany will play host to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer while Brazil prepares to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The opportunity to visit either of the two countries and study their many successes at the international and club level will be extremely educational and beneficial to all coaches.
While in Rio de Janeiro, coaches will take part in educational lectures with various professional coaches, visit with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and attend professional training sessions and games. Information about the workshop to Germany/Netherlands will be available in the near future.
Registration is open to all coaches. Current U.S Soccer “A†licensed coaches will earn eight (8) Continuing Education Units for attending.
It is recommended interested coaches visit www.state.gov for more details on traveling to Brazil and Germany/Netherlands.
Since its inception in March 2009, more than 110 coaches have traveled internationally with CoachesNet to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Madrid, Spain. In Argentina, coaches visited with coaches at the Argentina Football Association (AFA) and discussed coaching philosophy from U-15s to U-20s.
“The Argentina Coaching Tour was an excellent, excellent educational opportunity,†said Sean Bushey, a National “A†License, Region IV staff coach and head coach at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. “To be certain, without the work of U.S. Soccer, a coach on his or her own would not have gained the inside access that we had. …The trip was extremely worthwhile for a youth coach, college coach or for anyone excited about trying to make soccer in their area better.â€
