In the coming weeks, the “Starting XI” will feature detailed discussions with the likes of U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley, U-17 MNT head coach John Hackworth, and Director of Coaching Education & Youth Development Bob Jenkins, among others. In addition to specific questions on dealing with everything from player burnout to the style of an opponent, the “Starting XI” interviews will reveal their tendencies in team management, their role models and how they began their coaching careers.

“All of the top coaches have a burning desire to win, and their determined to do that,” said Ryan in answering question No. 3 about the qualities that make a top-level coach. “Their methodologies might be quite different, but there is only one thing they want to do and that is to win. … I think that is the one common quality, and each coach then needs to find out how they are going to go about doing that.”
