U.S. Under-17 Men to Play Exhibition Against the University of South Florida on Nov. 9
CHICAGO (Nov. 7, 2012) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team is scheduled to play an exhibition match against the University of South Florida at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 9, at Corbett Stadium. The match is free and open to the public.
The Bulls finished the 2012 NCAA regular season with an 8-5-4 record, including a 2-3-3 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The squad, coached by George Kiefer, did not qualify for the BIG EAST Conference tournament, but could earn an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament on Monday, Nov. 12.
Venezuelan sophomore midfielder Roberto Alterio leads USF with five goals and one assist in 17 games played, while Trinidadian senior midfielder Leston Paul is the team’s leader in points with three goals and six assists (12 points). Paul captained the Trinidad & Tobago U-17 National Team during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007 and also captained the U-20 side during the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt before joining USF.
The U-17 MNT recently played international friendlies against Uruguay and Paraguay – a 3-1 win and 2-2 draw, respectively – bookending the team’s participation in the Four-Nations Tournament against Chile and host Argentina, where the U.S. defeated Chile 5-1 in the opening match before falling 3-1 against Argentina in the final.
Furthermore, the schedule for the 2012 Nike International Friendlies was released this week, as the U-17 MNT will face Brazil, Turkey and Portugal later this month.
