U.S. fans attending the doubleheader in Foxboro are being encouraged to “Wear Red” in support of the U.S. Men’s National Team as they battle El Salvador, Jamaica and Panama in their four-team semifinal round group of World Cup qualifying. The U.S. opens the semifinal round with a match on Aug. 18 in Jamaica, and the Foxboro game is the second of six games that will decide the two teams that will advance into the final round of qualifying in 2005.

"Foxboro has been an outstanding home for soccer and for the U.S. National Teams," said U.S. Manager Bruce Arena. "They've hosted a number of important games over the years and we've had great success there. We know that fans from all over the Northeast will come out to support us as we begin the semifinal round of qualifying at home."

The U.S. Men’s National Team holds an impressive 11-1-3 mark playing in Foxboro, including an undefeated 7-0-3 record at the old Foxboro Stadium. The U.S. was 4-0-1 in World Cup Qualifiers at the original stadium, including a 2-1 win over Jamaica on Oct. 7, 2001, that clinched a berth to the 2002 World Cup for the U.S., the first time the team has ever done so on its home soil.

The U.S. is 4-1-0 at the new venue, including a trio of wins as part of the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The team’s only blemish in Foxboro was a 2-0 loss to Holland in the team’s final match before the hugely successful World Cup in Korea/Japan. In their most recent match in New England, the U.S. soundly defeated Honduras 4-0 on June 2 behind two goals from forward Brian McBride.

The U.S. advanced to the semifinal round of FIFA World Cup qualifying with a 6-2 aggregate victory over Grenada on June 13 and 20. Those triumphs are part of a seven-game unbeaten run for the U.S. in 2004, in which the team has compiled an overall record of 5-1-3 in nine matches. The first semifinal round qualifying game for the U.S. can be seen live from Jamaica on Wednesday, August 18 at 7 p.m. ET.
