Academy Referee of the Week for the Week of March 29

Referee of the Week: Abraham Huerta
Hometown: San Jose, Calif.
Grade: 7

Abraham Huerta has been selected as the Development Academy Referee of the Week for an outstanding performance in a match between West Conference opponents Santa Cruz County Breakers and Real So Cal on March 20th.

Abraham started his referee career as a teenager in 2003. Following a playing career in college, he decided to take his referee career seriously. Though he began refereeing as a way to make a little extra money in the sport he loved, Abraham is now looking to develop into an elite referee and views the Development Academy as a “huge stepping stone” in the advancement of his abilities. Abraham has worked over 30 Academy matches since 2008 and is currently adding local amateur matches and professional scrimmages to his résumé.

When informed of this honor, Abraham was quick to thank the people around him.

“I would like to thank my family, friends and everyone from Cal North for their continued help and support,” he said. “I continue to learn from the best whether it be fellow referees, assessors or great instructors.”
