w/ U-20 MNT forward Mike Magee
What’s it going to be? Door number one, door number two, or door number THREE?!? Okay, so this section has less to do with “Let’s Make A Deal” and more to do with the Multiple Choice section of an SAT test. “In Threes” peeks inside the head of a select National Team player as they pick one of three choices for 20-some questions about personal tastes and pop culture.
To get to know U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team star Mike Magee, we take a look at his already impressive resume for the position of Top Young U.S. Forward, followed by the answers to his rapid-fire job interview.

Awards: Possible MLS Rookie of the Year finalist
Interests: Chicago Bears, skateboarding, Madonna
Best U.S. city: L.A., N.Y.C. or Chicago?
“Chicago. I grew up there, and there just isn't any comparison.”
Best date activity: Movie, Theatre, or Comedy Club?
“I would definitely say a movie. I'm a big movie guy. Plus, if you don't like the girl, you don't have to talk to her."
Best way to relax on the road: see a movie, shop at the mall or play video games?
“Playing video games. We play ‘Tiger Woods Golf’ a lot.”
Favorite undergarment: Boxers, briefs or boxer-briefs?
"Boxer-briefs. Not too tight, not to loose."
Worst haircut: mohawk, mullet or bowl cut?
“Mullet and mohawk are stylish, I think. The bowl cut is the one I wouldn't go for.”
Favorite movie from the original “Star Wars” trilogy: "A New Hope" (the original), "The Empire Strikes Back" or "Return of the Jedi"?
"I've never seen a single ‘Star Wars’--not a one. I've probably seen every movie except those three."
Best male superhero: Superman, Batman or Spiderman?
“Batman, for sure. I've got a really, really cool Batman hat.”
Best rapper-turned actor: Ice Cube, Tupac or Ja Rule?
"Ice Cube. The ‘Friday’ movies are awesome. I actually just watched one last week."
Coolest veteran actor: Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino or Robert Redford?
“Al Pacino. ‘Scarface’ is incredible.”
Best young actor: Brad Pitt, Ed Norton or Colin Farrell?
“Ed Norton. All the roles he's played are good.”
Favorite late night talk show: Dave, Jay or Conan?
"Conan. He's definitely the funniest, and the people he has on are really good. I just watched it the other night and Will Farrell was on, who is the funniest human being alive."
Favorite Thursday night NBC sitcom: "Friends," "Scrubs" or "Will & Grace"?
"‘Friends,’ even though it is coming to an end. The other two aren't that great in my eyes."
Favorite pop-punk band: Blink 182, Good Charlotte or The Ataris?
"Blink 182. They are pretty much old school and the best out of the group."
[Editor’s Note: Modern pop-punk bands more “old school” than Blink 182: Green Day, Rancid, Offspring.]
Hottest female icon: Britney, Madonna or Christina?
“Between those (long pause) I'd have to go with Madonna. I like the older chicks. If she's that old and still looks that good, she's got it going for her.”
Country music: classic, comforting, or corny?
“More like boring. I definitely wouldn't want to listen to that. I'm not from Texas or anything.”
Sports & Leisure:
Best role player on Jordan-era Bulls teams: John Paxson, Toni Kukoc or B.J. Armstrong?
"I'll pick Toni Kukoc out of the three, but Steve Kerr was left off and he was a big role player, too."
Best Chicago sports team: Bulls, Bears or Cubs?
"My favorite team out of those is definitely the Bears. They are the hardest team to see lose, but they are also hard to watch because they aren't a good football team right now. My dad is a big Bears fan, so I was kind of born into it."
Best men's magazine: Maxim, FHM or GQ?
“Maxim. (It’s the) combination of girls and jokes. I get it for all the traveling games.”
Coolest X-game: surfing, snowboarding or skateboarding?
“Skateboarding. I always try to skateboard, but you can't always practice year-round in Chicago.”
Best Chicago-style deep dish pizza: Pizzeria Uno (the original), Gino's East or Giordano's?
"I'll pick Giordano's, but my favorite is Armand’s (in St. Charles) or Edwardo's."
Favorite type of non-American food: Mexican, Italian or Chinese/Asian?
“I'd have to go with a combo of Mexican and Italian. Tacos are a great snack, but all-around, Italian.”
Best American-invented condiment: ketchup, ranch dressing or spray butter?
“Ranch dressing. Ranch can go with anything, especially chicken fingers. Spray butter is a disgusting thought.”
Favorite soda: Coke, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper?
“Coke. I'm more of a Gatorade guy, but in the off season you could find me drinking Coke.”
Favorite late-night eats: burrito, slice or gyro?
"Burrito. It hits the spot late night."
Best side dish to go along with Thanksgiving Day turkey: mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or stuffing?
[Editor's note: He will be eating Thanksgiving in the United Arab Emirates with the rest of the team during the FIFA Youth World Championship.]
"Stuffing. I wouldn't like to have it in UAE, but if I was at home with my mama, it would definitely be stuffing."
