2008 Olympics Athlete Selection Procedures
CHICAGO (January 7, 2008) - Under the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) umbrella, each National Governing Body (NGB) must present a document describing their Olympic Team selection procedures for their sport. Posted below are documents outlining the selection procedures for both the Men and Women for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, pending final approval by the USOC Board of Directors. The purpose of posting these procedures is to allow constituency groups (e.g. athletes, coaches, etc.) the ability to access the procedures.
Selection Procedures for the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team have been modified to allow for the submission of an initial nomination list of thirty-six (36) players on June 30, 2008. The final roster of eighteen (18) players and four (4) alternate players will be submitted on July 15, 2008.
U.S. Soccer will submit 25 names, to the USOC, for women’s team on or before June 28, 2008. The final team of 18 and 4 replacements for the women’s team, coming from the list of 25 submitted on June 28, will be nominated to the USOC on or before July 15, 2008.
