Welsh Replaces Rapinoe on U.S. Roster vs. Iceland

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 7, 2006) - Forward Christie Welsh was called in to replace the injured Megan Rapinoe on the 18-player U.S. roster that will face Iceland on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1:55 p.m. ET live on ESPN2.

Rapinoe, a sophomore at the University of Portland, tore the ACL in her left knee last Thursday while playing for the Pilots in a 2-1 win over Washington State. The standard recovery time for an ACL tear is about six months.

Welsh was a member of the USA’s 2006 Residency Training Camp in Carson, Calif. The former Penn State All-American has scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for the USA.
