U.S. Under-23s Fall, 1-0, to Portugal to Open Foreign Trip
CHICAGO (Tuesday, January 25, 2000) - Building on a promising start to the 2000 season that included two tightly contested scrimmages with the U.S. Men's National Team on Jan. 11 and a 3-1 win over Armenia on Jan. 16, the U.S. Under-23's fell 1-0 to a tough Portugal squad in an extremely well-played match tonight. The lone goal came on a penalty kick in the 65th minute after U.S. defender Chad McCarty got tangled with a Portugal player in the box. Next up on their Tour of Portugal are games on Thursday (Jan. 27 vs. Estoril--Portuguese First Div.) and Sunday (Jan. 30 vs. Offenbach--German Second Div.) before the lads head home to the States on Jan. 31.
