U-17 '90 MNT Fall to West Virginia

BRADENTON, Fla. (March 13, 2006) - The U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team fell 3-0 to the University of West Virginia this afternoon at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The younger U-17s held their own against the college squad, even outshooting them 13-10, but couldn't find the back of the net.

West Virginia's Jarrod Smith put the Mountaineers up early when he buried a pass from Zak Boggs past U.S. goalkeeper Larry Jackson in the 10th minute.

While the U.S. struggled to beat goalkeeper Nick Noble, the Mountaineers put the game away early in the second half as Smith scored his second tally in the 50th minute and Boggs added to his earlier assist with a strike in the 58th minute.

Down by three goals, U.S. U-17 head coach John Hackworth made wholesale changes in the 63rd minute, bringing in 10 new field players, but the substitutes were unable to mount a comeback.
