U-20 MNT Fall to Rapids in First Match of 2006

SUNRISE, Fla. (March 10, 2006) - The U.S. Under-20  Men’s National Team fell, 1-0, to the Colorado Rapids this afternoon during the team’s first training camp of the year, which is being held in Sunrise, Fla.

U-20 head coach Thomas Rongen, who was hired just last week for his second stint with the team, utilized almost all of his available players as he conducts the early stages of evaluating players in preparation for 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifying.

Nicolas Hernandez scored the lone goal in the match, blasting a shot past goalkeeper Steve Sandbo in the 56th minute.

The U.S. had a couple of good chances in the match, including a breakaway that was thwarted by Colorado 'keeper Joe Cannon in the second half.

The U-20s will finish up camp on Monday, March 13. The U-20s will next get together for a tournament in Argentina in the middle of April.
