Former D.C. United Academy goalkeeper Bill Hamid posted a clean sheet during D.C.’s 1-0 victory against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday at RFK Stadium.
Hamid made five saves en route to his third shutout of the season and 23rd of his MLS career. All three of Hamid’s shutouts this season came during the month of May.
With the victory, D.C. United is second in the Eastern Conference at 6-4-3 and 21 points, just two points behind first-place New England Revolution (7-4-2, 23 points).
Powers Garners Two Assists for Rapids: Dillon Powers, formerly of Andromeda FC, notched two assists during the Colorado Rapids’ 3-0 win against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Powers set up Deshorn Brown’s 35th-minute tally to take a 2-0 lead and assisted Kamani Hill’s 51st-minute goal for a productive 68-minute performance. Powers leads the Rapids with three assists this season.
Ritter Debuts and Starts in Fire Draw: Former Chicago Fire Academy midfielder Chris Ritter made his debut and first MLS start during the Fire’s 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy on Sunday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Ritter played the full 90 minutes.
Elsewhere, Crew Soccer Academy alum Ben Speas made his first appearance of 2014 and assisted a goal during the Columbus Crew’s 3-2 loss to Toronto FC on Saturday. Speas’ assist to Agustin Viana gave the Crew a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, but Toronto scored back-to-back goals during the final 10 minutes of regulation and stoppage time to earn the win.
