Sharp Calls 16 Players to U.S. PNT Training Camp
Three Players Receive First PNT Call-Up for Penultimate Camp before 2014 Copa America
CHICAGO (July 7, 2014) – U.S. Paralympic National Team head coach Stuart Sharp has named a 16-player roster for U.S. PNT training camp from July 10-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
Fresh off an impressive second-place finish at the 9th International Trophy of 7-A-Side Football in Barcelona, Spain, the July camp is the U.S. PNT’s second-to-last event before attending the 2014 Copa America this September in Toronto, Canada. Ten players who helped the U.S. go unbeaten in Barcelona have been included on the camp roster, while three others: Tommy Chasanoff, Daniel Hoffman and Eryin Wandel will participate in their first event with the PNT.
“This camp is an excellent opportunity to gather the players together and continue to build upon the recent momentum that the U.S. PNT has been creating lately. With this in mind, we must now build upon the relative success of the competition in Barcelona and focus on the challenges ahead, mainly that of the Copa America in Toronto in September,” Sharp said. “We have managed to identify some new emerging talent, presenting us with a good opportunity to see them in action. With each camp, the staff can see the players getting stronger and becoming more knowledgeable about the game. This is a process in the early stages, but we are progressing well toward our goals.”
The team will gather for a final training camp in mid August to complete its preparations for the 2014 Copa America.
Players who have Cerebral Palsy, suffered a stroke or traumatic brain injury yet are ambulatory may be eligible to play for the U.S. Paralympic National Team.
