Montreal Impact, Chicago Magic PSG Take Home Third Place in Academy Championships

U-17/18 Montreal Impact Edges FC Dallas; U-15/16 Chicago Magic PSG Shuts Out Strikers FC

CARSON, California (July 19, 2014) – Ahead of Saturday’s title games at the 2013-14 Development Academy Championships, the Montreal Impact U-17/18 team defeated FC Dallas 3-2 and the Chicago Magic PSG U-15/16 defeated Strikers FC 3-0 in their third-place matches at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center. Fabio Morelli scored the game-winner in stoppage time for Montreal, while Elijah Rice led Chicago with a part in all three of the team’s goals to carry the U-15/16s.

After a scoreless first half, Chicago Magic FC tallied three second-half goals led by an offensive explosion by Elijah Rice, who has missed the semifinal stage while serving a red card suspension. His goal in the 55th minute opened the scoring, picking up a Strikers FC turnover and converting to score what would turn out to be the game-winner.

Rice had a hand in the two other goals scored by Chicago, supplying the cross that led to Kendall Stork’s tap-in in the 70th minute and recording the assist on Amit Tal’s 80th-minute insurance goal.

U-17/18 Third Place Game
Montreal Impact 3, FC Dallas 2
Fabio Morelli scored in the third minute of stoppage time to give the Montreal Impact a 3-2 victory in a back-and-forth game. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Impact scored two equalizers –the first from Mitchel Bringolf in the 64th minute to tie the score at 1-1, and the second in the 84th minute by Alexander Kulic to set up the game-winner.

Oscar Romero recorded a brace in the loss for FC Dallas, putting his team up 1-0 just before halftime and netting a 70th-minute goal from Coy Craft to give his team a 2-1 lead.
