U.S. Takes Sixth at Open Nordic Tournament After 4-3 Loss to Finland
U-17s Finish Tournament with 1-3-0 Record After Dropping Fifth-Place Match
NORRE AABY, Denmark (Aug. 2, 2014) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team fell to Finland 4-3 on Saturday at Norre Aaby Stadium to take sixth place at the 2014 Open Nordic Tournament. The U.S. finished with a 1-3-0 record in the event.
The U.S. trailed 3-0 at the end of the first half and gave up an early second-half goal to go down by four. However, the USA managed to muster a significant response to work its way back into the game.
Logan Panchot sparked the U.S. attack when he scored in the 56th minute, followed by Elijah Rice’s tally in the 60th to give the U-17s some hope. George Braima’s goal in the 70th minute cut Finland’s lead to 4-3, but the U.S. failed to net an equalizer in the final 10 minutes.
With the end of the Open Nordic Tournament, the U.S. U-17 MNT now turns its attention to the Copa Mexico de Naciones. Four players who were on the Open Nordic Tournament roster are also on the roster for the Copa Mexico de Naciones: goalkeeper William Pulisic, defender Edwin Lara and forwards McKinze Gaines and Rice.
