Two of the Development Academy’s U-16 unbeaten teams square off this weekend for Week 11 of the 2014-15 season. In the East Conference’s Atlantic Division, the 9-0-0 Philadelphia Union hits the road to face the 7-0-1 New York Red Bulls on Saturday in Whippany, New Jersey.
Both sides are off to fantastic starts to the season. The Union has outscored its opponents by a staggering 29-3 margin, and the Red Bulls have nearly been as dominant with a 23-6 margin. The Red Bulls’ lone draw came against Players Development Academy, a 1-1 stalemate on Oct. 18. New York’s Brian Saramago, coming off a two-goal performance against Bethesda-Olney, is tied for the league lead with 1.13 goals per game (nine goals in eight matches).
The Union, Red Bulls and FC Dallas (6-0-1) are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the U-16 age division.
In the Central Conference’s Frontier Division, the red-hot Houston Dynamo U-18 team looks to add to its five-game winning streak when it faces host Texas Rush (4-2-1) on Saturday in The Woodlands. The Texas Rush is third in the division and the Houston Dynamo is in first place at 5-0-1.
In the West, Real Salt Lake AZ’s and Pateadores’ U-18 teams, ranked No. 2 and 3 in the Southwest Division, meet up Saturday at Grand Sports World in Casa Grande, Arizona. Real Salt Lake (7-1-3) boasts the top offense in the division with 32 goals in 11 matches. Pateadores (5-2-4) has had its share of close games all season with four draws, three one-goal victories and a one-goal loss.
The Nov. 15-16 weekend features 149 games – 71 at the U-14 age group (42 at the West regional in California) and a combined 78 games at the U-16 and U-18 age groups.
