CHICAGO (Dec. 1, 2014) – John Di Salvatore, a former FIFA referee in the 1960s and 1970s, passed away Sunday. He was 94.
Di Salvatore was a FIFA referee from 1966-73, as well as a referee in the North American Soccer League from 1973-76. Among his international duties, the Brooklyn, New York, native officiated the USA’s 3-3 draw against Israel on Sept. 15, 1968, at Yankee Stadium.
Following his officiating days, Di Salvatore was actively involved in the sport as an assignor, assessor and instructor.
