CHICAGO (Jan. 12, 2015) – In an effort to showcase the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and encourage the development of women’s soccer, FIFA’s Live Your Goals Tour will make a stop in the United States on Friday, Jan. 16 during the 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention in Philadelphia.
The events will take place around the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, starting with a welcome breakfast for media at 7:30 a.m. ET and press conference at 8:30 a.m. in room 112A to discuss the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the message of the Live Your Goals campaign.
Participants will include FIFA Deputy Director of the Competitions Division and Head of Women’s Competitions Tatjana Haenni, FIFA Senior Women’s Football Development Manager Mayi Cruz Blanco and U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team Technical Director April Heinrichs. Light breakfast will be served.
The Live Your Goals Tour will also include an extensive panel discussion about the development of women’s soccer in the United States. Speakers set to participate in the panel include FIFA ExCo Member Sonia Bien-Aime, NWSL and Sky Blue FC Head Coach and Technical Director Jim Gabarra, Haenni, Blanco and Heinrichs. The panel will take place at 2:30 p.m. in room 113B, the same location as the NWSL College Draft.
In addition, FIFA will also have the Women’s World Cup Trophy on display inside the Grand Hall of the convention center, providing attendees the opportunity to take photos. The trophy will be on display from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. ET.
The Live Your Goals initiative was launched by FIFA to build enthusiasm for football among girls and women around the world and inspire as many as possible to take up playing. The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada marks the first time that 24 teams will take part in the showpiece event. The tournament will take place from June 6-July 5 across six cities from coast to coast (Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg).
Billed as “The World’s Largest Annual Gathering of Soccer Coaches,” each year the NSCAA Convention draws approximately 4,000 coaches from its 30,000-plus members, and more than 10,000 attendees over five days for live field demonstration and lecture sessions, networking socials, coaching diplomas and more.
