U.S. Beach Soccer National Team in El Salvador Ready to Defend CONCACAF Crown
The U.S. Beach Soccer National Team will begin its quest to defend its title at the 2015 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship when it faces Antigua & Barbuda on March 28 at 7:45 p.m. ET at Estadio de Fútbol de Playa Costa del Sol in San Salvador, El Salvador.
U.S. Beach Soccer National Team head coach Eddie Soto called a 12-player roster that is now in San Salvador ready to kick things off and try to qualify for another Beach Soccer World Cup.
“I am really happy with how the schedule panned out," said Soto about kicking off qualifying in El Salvador. “To play a game on the first day, then we have a day off, and then we play two in a row. After that, preliminaries are done and quarterfinals come after. We’re going to take things one day at a time and hopefully have a good run in the tournament. I think our fitness level is great and our guys have done an excellent job of taking care of themselves.”
U.S. forward Nick Perera also commented on how important it will be for the USA to take advantage of its strengths in order to not only defend its CONCACAF crown, but qualify for the Beach Soccer World Cup.
“For us, it’s about getting into the World Cup," said Perera. “I think going into El Salvador is tough because that was the team we beat in the championship in 2013. It will be difficult to get back there. But we’re also very fit, athletic, and hardworking, and we defend really well. Those are things we are hoping will help us get to where we want to.”
The U.S. was drawn into Group C where it will play Antigua & Barbuda on March 28, take on Barbados on March 30 at 9 p.m. ET, and face the Bahamas on March 31 at 9 p.m. ET. Beach Soccer Worldwide will be streaming the tournament live. For game results and updates you can also visit ussoccer.com or follow on Twitter @ussoccer.
