July 26, 2015

U.S. MNT SQUARES OFF WITH PANAMA FOR GOLD CUP BRONZE: The U.S. Men’s National Team will meet Panama in the third place match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Wed, July 25 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 2 and Univision.

The U.S. MNT has played in the third place game twice in the 13 editions of the tournament, and has won both times. In 1996, the USA defeated Guatemala 3-0 in Los Angeles and seven years later came from behind to win 3-2 against Costa Rica in Miami.

Meantime, Panama has reached the third place game or the final in each of the last three Gold Cups.

The USA saw its title defense end in the semifinal round in Atlanta when the team fell 2-1 to Jamaica, ending a nine-match unbeaten streak dating back to March. The U.S. is 3-1-1 in this tournament after defeating Cuba 6-0 in the quarterfinal and winning Group A with a 2-0-1 record, which included a 1-1 draw with Panama. Los Canaleros reached the semifinal after falling 2-1 in extra time to Mexico at the Georgia Dome. Panama got to that game after defeating Trinidad and Tobago in 6-5 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw.

The USA is 12-1-3 all-time against Panama. They have met eight times in the Gold Cup, in which the USA holds a 5-1-2 record, including the group finale on July 13 in which Michael Bradley leveled the game on a goal in the 55th minute.

The MNT has played one other match at PPL Park, a scoreless draw on Oct. 12, 2010 against Colombia. The MNT is 3-2-2 all-time in matches in the state of Pennsylvania.
