The 2016 SheBelieves Cup is unique among the vast array of international tournaments. The elite competition brings together four of the top five women’s national teams in the world to battle it out for the title of the inaugural SheBelieves Cup. The world’s premier four-nation women’s soccer tournament, staged in advance of the 2016 Summer Olympics, underlines U.S. Soccer’s continued commitment to investing in the growth of women’s soccer.
Conceived and developed by USWNT players, #SheBelieves is a campaign to inspire and encourage young women and girls to accomplish their goals and dreams, athletic and otherwise. Launched in the weeks before the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the campaign has continually reached new heights by positively impacting communities around the country and expanding to produce the SheBelieves Cup - the marquee women’s friendly tournament on the international soccer calendar.
The main focus of the SheBelieves Cup will be the premier matches, beginning on March 3 when France and Germany square off in a rematch of their 2015 World Cup quarterfinal showdown and the USA takes on rising women’s soccer power England. In addition to the world class soccer being played, the SheBelieves Cup will showcase accompanying events around the games at each venue that embrace the spirit of #SheBelieves beyond the pitch.
#SheBelieves School Nominations
The three cities hosting SheBelieves Cup games are full of bright, aspiring students who are inspirations to others in their respective community. In order to find these young leaders, SheBelieves information packets were sent to schools in Tampa, Nashville and Boca Raton, asking students to nominate a peer who has shown strong leadership at their school for a career day workshop that will be held in each city and hosted by several WNT staff. As reward for their community leadership, the student nominees will also be treated to a VIP experience at the U.S. WNT match taking place in their respective city.
#SheBelieves in Leadership
The #SheBelieves campaign will move beyond the tournament and into the communities of Tampa, Nashville and Boca Raton in a newly developed video series that focuses on various female leaders in different industries. In front of the camera, these industry leaders will answer earnest questions about themselves and how they achieved high levels of personal and professional success. The video series will aim to empower and inspire young girls to believe in their ability to achieve any lofty goal they set for themselves. The series will be shared through U.S. Soccer’s social media accounts for all to enjoy.
#SheBelieves Military Recognition
An important part of the #SheBelieves message is to spotlight leaders who inspire and motivate those around them on a daily basis, even when tragedy strikes. The SheBelieves Cup will recognize members of our military for exactly that type of leadership and sacrifice by inviting Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) families, who have lost a parent in the line of duty, to attend the U.S. WNT games in Tampa, Nashville and Boca Raton. The daughters of our fallen servicemen and women, who have displayed great effort in accomplishing their goals in the face of significant loss and inspired others to achieve their dreams, will be the focus of #SheBelieves Military Recognition at each USA match.
Throughout the tournament, U.S. Soccer aims to inspire international fans to join the #SheBelieves campaign. “#SheBelieves” will be translated into French and German to support the growth of #SheBeleieves ideals worldwide. Through social media, England, France, Germany and the United States soccer federations will promote International Women’s Day on March 8 with special graphics meant to unite, inspire and empower women across the globe in pursuit of their dreams.
Girls Fantasy Camp – Nashville
U.S. Soccer will hold a four-day Girls’ Fantasy Camp from March 4-7 in Nashville, Tennessee, around the second match day of the tournament. The camp, designed for girls born in 2001, 2002 and 2003, is an exclusive fan-player opportunity that includes: training sessions with retired U.S. WNT stars, VIP access to a WNT training session, on-field match tickets, a pre-game stadium tour and field-level access to watch warm-ups, U.S. Soccer training apparel and jersey, accommodations, meals and more. The Fantasy Camp series is a fundraiser that supports U.S. Soccer development initiatives and includes a tax-deductible donation.
The SheBelieves Cup will host a special #SheBelieves Zone at FanHQ events before every WNT match, beginning today for the #USAvENG game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Fans of all ages are invited to Lot 6-D across from Gate C on the south side of the stadium to experience a fun-filled time with face painting, mini-foot golf games and music by successful female artists.
