Tyler Miller Replaces Zack Steffen on USA's Olympic Qualifying Roster

Seattle Sounders FC Goalkeeper to Join U-23 MNT in Miami Ahead of Series vs. Colombia

CHICAGO (March 20, 2016) – U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team head coach Andi Herzog has called in Seattle Sounders FC goalkeeper Tyler Miller to replace the injured Zack Steffen for the team’s training camp ahead of the team’s Olympic Qualifying playoff series against Colombia. 

Miller made two appearances for the U-23 MNT in 2015. He made his debut by playing the final 45 minutes in a friendly against Denmark on March 31, then earned his first start and shutout in a 1-0 win against Qatar on June 2 at the Toulon Tournament in France.

Steffen, who represented the USA at the 2013 and 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cups and started the first two matches of the U-23 MNT CONCACAF Qualifying tournament, was forced to withdraw due to an injury suffered with his club, SC Freiburg.

The team will begin gathering in Miami, Fla. on March. 20. The first match of the 2016 Olympic Qualifying playoff will take place on Friday, March 25 at Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia, at 4 p.m. local (5 p.m. ET, live on FS1 and UniMas). The return leg will be played on March 29 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas at 8:30 p.m. CT [TICKETS], live on ESPN2 following the U.S. MNT’s World Cup Qualifying match against Guatemala at 6 p.m. CT.
