Soto Names 12-Player Roster for 2016 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in Dubai

CHICAGO (Oct. 28, 2016) – U.S. Beach Soccer National Team head coach Eddie Soto has named 12 players to compete in the sixth edition of the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup, set to take place from Nov. 1-5 in Dubai. Assistant coach Francis Farberoff will act as head coach throughout the duration of the tournament.

The USA is in Group B of the tournament, along with Russia, Egypt, and Iran. They will face Iran on Nov. 1, Russia on Nov. 2, and finish out the group stage with a Nov. 3 match against Egypt.

Group A is composed by Tahiti, Brazil, Poland, and tournament host United Arab Emirates. The results of group stage matches will determine the playoff and placement match scenarios.

The Beach National Team has had four domestic training camps in 2016, three taking place in California and one in Florida. They also convened for a training camp in Switzerland back in August, securing a friendly win against Tahiti and losses to the Bahamas and Switzerland. In addition, the team competed in the Beach Soccer Worldwide Tour Copa Pilsener in El Salvador and in the BSWW Mundialito Cascais in Portugal, collecting a 1-4-1 record at those competitions.

This tournament will serve as preparation for the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifying, which will be held Feb. 20-26 in the Bahamas.
