U-23 WNT Draws England 0-0 at Women's U-23 Four Nations Nordic Tournament in Sweden

SUNNE, Sweden (June 9, 2017) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team drew 0-0 with England in its second match of the Women’s U-23 Four-Nations Nordic Tournament.

In the other match of the day, Sweden defeated Norway 1-0. Heading into the final match day on June 12, the USA is tied with England on points with each team having a win and a tie, but England is ahead on the next tie-breaker – goal difference – sitting at +4 to the USA’s +3.

If both the USA and England win their final games – USA vs. Sweden and England vs. Norway, respectively – the USA must overturn the goal difference disadvantage to win the tournament.

The USA beat Norway 3-0 in its opening match, scoring all three goals after the 70th minute, but England beat Sweden 4-0 in its first game.

U.S. head coach B.J. Snow started five NWSL players who did not see action in the first match due to travel after their club matches last weekend. The USA did out-shoot England 7-3, but despite putting six shots on goal, could not find a way past England goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, who plays for Birmingham City in the FA Women’s Super League.

All the England players play for FAWSL clubs, including two for Spring Series champions Chelsea FC, which also features U.S. WNT striker Crystal Dunn. Jane Campbell of the Houston Dash picked up the shutout in goal for the USA, making three saves.
