U-20 WNT Falls to Germany 1-0 to Finish European Tour

USA Goes 3-1-0 Over Two Games in England and Two in Germany

RHEINE, Germany (July 12, 2017)The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team fell to Germany 1-0 in the last of four friendly games in Europe that saw the USA defeat England twice in England while also beating Germany 2-1 on July 10 in Rheine.

In an even match that saw both teams create 10 shots, Germany got the game-winner in the 82nd minute on a bit of a sloppy goal. Janina Minge crossed the ball into the penalty box and after a couple of deflections off players, the ball hit Giulia Gwinn in the midsection and bounced into the net.

On July 5, the USA defeated its counterparts from England 2-1 as Civana Kuhlmann and Ashley Sanchez scored. On July 7, the USA beat England again, this time 2-0, as Taylor Kornieck and Kuhlmann got the goals. The USA then traveled to Germany where it beat the Germans on goals from Abigail Kim and Sophia Smith.

This group of players are in the middle of the first year of a two-year cycle in which the USA will attempt to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in France.
