PREVIEW: PNT Takes on Surging England in World Championships Quarterfinal

After a strong showing in the group stage, the U.S. Paralympic National Team begins the knockout round of the 2017 IFCPF CP Football World Championships Monday against England (11:30 a.m. ET, YouTube). The USA finished second in Group D while England emerged from pool play as winner of Group C. It’s been an impressive run for the English so far, as they enter the knockout round with a plus-25 goal differential.

The PNT punched its ticket to the knockout round with two dominant victories in its first two matches, defeating Australia 6-0 and Northern Ireland 5-0 to open the group stage. The wins saw contributions from across the roster- newcomer Cameron DeLillo scored three goals while fellow fresh faces Ben Lindau and Nick Mayhugh have garnered three assists. PNT veterans have also made their mark- Rio leading scorers Adam Ballou and Seth Jahn have combined for three goals and two assists while captain Kevin Hensley has also added two goals.

Friday’s match against world No. 1 Ukraine marked the PNT’s first conceded goals and first loss of 2017. The red, white and blue put on a valiant effort against the reigning Paralympic champs, giving the Yellow Blue its toughest challenge of the tournament in an 0-2 loss. Goalkeeper Sean Boyle put on a stellar performance, making 13 saves.
