An open letter to our soccer family:

I am incredibly humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve as President of the United States Soccer Federation.

I commend my fellow candidates who made a deep and personal commitment several months ago in running for President. We owe each of them a debt of gratitude, and I will be reaching out to each of them to draw on their counsel and expertise.

U.S. Soccer has had many successes over the years for which we can all be proud.  At the same time, we face urgent challenges.  I know that many supporters and fans are frustrated—even angry.  I want you to know that I hear you.

As I said during the campaign, U.S. Soccer needs transformational change, and my detailed plan for change is available here

With the election behind us, I want to help unite us as one soccer family.  The individual passions that fueled each candidacy can help us fulfill the vast potential for our beloved game in the United States. I believe that, playing as a team, we can be unstoppable.

In my remarks on Saturday, I made a pledge to all of you.  I will be your partner. I will listen.  I will be inclusive.  I will work with you to deliver the change we need, together, as one united soccer community.

I am especially grateful to our dedicated CEO, Dan Flynn, who joined me at my first press conference on Saturday—because we’ll only be able to deliver real change if all of us work together.

I believe that we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform soccer in America. In the years ahead, I will devote myself to serving U.S. Soccer, to the game of soccer and to each of you – no matter who you may have backed in the election.   I will work hard to earn your trust and confidence.

I hope you’ll join me as a teammate on this journey. I am incredibly excited for the next chapter of soccer in the United States. Working together, I know that we can build on our successes, fix what’s wrong, aim higher and make soccer in America the very best it can be!

Sincerely,

Carlos Cordeiro
President, U.S. Soccer
