  • The Free State Stadium was upgraded from a capacity of 38,000 to 45,000 during the preparation for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium has hosted numerous soccer and rugby matches, and Bloemfontein's natives are renowned for their passion for sporting events. Rugby has been a more traditional sport for the people of Bloemfontein, though soccer is sure to be the center of attention this summer.
