- The Free State Stadium was upgraded from a capacity of 38,000 to 45,000 during the preparation for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup. Rugby has been a more traditional sport for the people of Bloemfontein, though soccer is sure to be the center of attention this summer.
