U.S. forward Abby Wambach is fast approaching one of the most hallowed records in international women’s soccer history: Mia Hamm’s all-time scoring record of 158 career goals.
We’re calling it #ChasingMia.
What makes this “chase” even more special is that Abby gives much of the credit for her early development as a professional player to Hamm, who was her strike partner on the Washington Freedom in the former Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). As Mia was nearing the end of her illustrious National Team career, Abby was just breaking into the U.S. squad and got to learn on the field from the woman who was her idol while she was growing up in Rochester, N.Y. While Abby never thought she’d have the chance to break the scoring record, Mia says she always knew her teammate would be able to do it. And she just might be right.

Legend to Legend
With Abby Wambach closing in Mia Hamm's world all-time scoring record, we sat down the two most prolific scorers in international women's soccer history for a chat in Los Angeles. In Episode 1 of Legend to Legend, we chat about the respect they have for each other and how each influenced the other on the field.
As Abby Wambach continues to chase Mia Hamm's all-time international goal scorer record, we present Episode 2 of Legend to Legend. The two strikers talk about the art of goal scoring, how a goal scorer evolves and how their styles differ, if not the result.
In this third and final episode of #ChasingMia: From Legend to Legend, Abby talks about how Mia once told her that she would break her record. Turns out Mia was right.
