The second-half was a barnburner with the Italians taking the lead twice more, both times through Rasmus Hansen. The NEC Player of the Year and LIU Blackbird, playing on his own home field, collected a through-ball in the 58th minute to put the Italians up, only to see the lead snuffed out when Wojtek Wojcik scored seconds after the restart from close range to make it 2-2. With five minutes to go, Hansen had his final say when he cut in from the right and hammered home with his left foot to put the Brooklyn Italians through to the First Round on Wednesday against National Amateur Cup holders Lansdowne Bhoys out of Yonkers, N.Y.

Brooklyn Italians Previous Appearances (Best Finish): 11th Appearance (Champions: 1979 & 1991)
New York Cosmos B Previous Appearances (Best Finish): 5th Appearance (Fifth Round: Multiple Times)
- The Brooklyn Italians were giants of the semi-pro era of the National Challenge Cup/U.S. Open Cup and won the competition twice (in 1979 as the Brooklyn Dodgers & 1991) and they reached the Final on two more occasions. This is the club’s first appearance since 2015.
- The 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the first time the New York Cosmos, a legendary name in American soccer, will compete as a member as the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). In their glory days of the 70s & 80s, the Cosmos didn’t compete in the Open Cup and, as a member of the revived North American Soccer League post-2010, they reached the Fifth Round (Round of16) on three occasions (2014, 2015 & 2016).
