Mississippi Brilla FC (PDL) 1, Indy Eleven (USL) 0
Making just their fourth U.S. Open Cup appearance, Mississippi Brilla FC bent, but didn’t break in order to come away with one of the night’s “Cupsets”. Indy Eleven carried the play throughout much of the match, with their best opportunity coming in the 71st minute when Justin Braun’s effort was just tipped over the bar by Brilla goalkeeper Jordan Bell. The save kept thing scoreless, giving the Mississippi hopes of making it to extra time, but they had other ideas. An 82nd minute restart saw Bastien Oberli cross for Koray Eastering who buried the game’s only goal. With the win, Mississippi Brilla FC will make its first-ever foray into the tournament’s Third Round where they will face Nashville SC on Wednesday, May 23.
