NTX Rayados (Texas) 5, OKC Energy FC (USL) 2 (a.e.t.)
Another “Cupset” came in the Lone Star State, where NTX Rayados rode a 120-minute roller coaster before upending OKE Energy FC. A cagey first half saw Rayados take a 1-0 lead into the locker room thanks to Alberto Rodriguez’s 40th minute strike, but Energy FC pulled things back around after the break. A 50th minute hand ball led to an OKC penalty kick, which Philip Rasmussen converted and nine minutes later, Miguel Gonzalez gave the USL side a 2-1 lead. It Looked like OKC would cruise out of North Texas with a 2-1 victory, but Rayados had other ideas as Christian Okeke’s 90th minute penalty kick sent the match to extra time. Full of momentum, Okeke added the go-ahead goal – and also his third of the tournament – just before halftime. With the onus on Energy FC to push for an equalizer, the hosts put the match out of reach thanks to Lucio Martinez’s 109th minute penalty and Rodriguez’s second of the match in the 118th minute. With the win, NTX Rayados will host Wichita FC in Third Round play on Wednesday, May 23.
