Jerry van Ewijk scored three times as Reno 1868 FC (USL) turned on the offense in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and blow past Portland Timbers U23 at Greater Nevada Field in Reno. Ryo Shimazaki and Wouter Verstraaten had Timbers U23s’ first two goals off set pieces, but van Ewijk got Reno 1868 on the board less than 10 minutes before halftime and again two minutes into the second half to lead the comeback. An own goal gave Timbers U23s a brief lead, but former San Jose Earthquakes forward Danny Musovski scored twice midway through the second half and van Ewijk finished off his hat trick in the 81st minute for Reno 1868 FC, which will host Sacramento Republic FC in a Round 3 game.
