It is regeneration day for the US U-17 MNT here in Kano, which can only mean one thing: ice baths!
There was a little bit of improvisation going on, so here is how it played out...
1 - Five rooms fill their bath tubs with cold water and five fill their tubs with warm water
2 - Ice is dropped into the cold tubs to get it cold enough
3 - team admin Tim Ryder and trainer Paul Rushing coordinate the start and end of the respective baths. The team is kind of split onto to two levels, so there is a lot of logistical items to consider. 13 players went in and out of the 10 tubs, so a staff member on each floor relayed the time was in position to relay time updates down his respective hallway
4 - Players drop into the warm tubs
5 - Time's up - Switch! The guys carefully move to the next room over and into the ice cold baths
6 - Repeat!
7 - Players get a good stretch and relax for the remainder of the morning, taking breaks for some massages
This afternoon it was off to training at Kano Pillars FC stadium, where the 13 guys did some jogging and stretching to bring their bodies back to 100 percent, while the rest of the team played a small sided game to goal.
Two days is a quick turnaround, but these guys are already getting anxious to get back on the field against Malawi
