WNT Jun 20, 2011
Today’s activity for the U.S. WNT featured just a closed door training match against Norway, a game the USA lost 3-1, with Carli Lloyd scoring the USA’s lone goal on a beautiful strike from distance in the 60th minute. The USA controlled most of that first 60 minutes, but Norway was the aggressor for the last third, scoring in the 64th, 67th and 82nd minutes. Norway, which managed one shot on goal in the first half, created quite a few dangerous chances in the second half and executed three nice finishes. U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage used 15 players during the scrimmage and Norway used about the same. The U.S. team will have just one more on-field training in Austria before heading to Germany, that coming on Tuesday afternoon. The U.S. team will get a rest day on Wednesday and then travel to Dresden on Thursday morning, where it will train in the afternoon five days ahead of its opening match of the tournament against Korea DPR.
