Terrence Boyd and Sacha Kljestan demonstrated the depth and quality of the competition for spots on the National Team, the pair scoring goals on the weekend to keep their hot streaks going in club action.
Boyd - who had a penalty saved - put himself in the right place and the right time to finish off the second goal for Rapid Vienna in their 4-0 win v. Wacker Innsbruck. He now has four goals in five league games played. Meantime, Kljestan equaled Boyd's scoring pace when he netted the game-winner as Anderlecht rolled to a 5-0 win against Mechelen.
They weren't the only MNT players to light the lamp. Aron Johannsson continued his role as PK specialist for Alkmaar, both earning and converting the penalty to start the engine on the 3-0 win against Go Ahead Eagles.
Not to be outdone at the other end of the park, Tim Howard turned in a stellar performance for Everton as the home side collected its third consecutive shutout in league play, this time at the expense of Chelsea in a 1-0 victory.
