There's is still much soccer to be played in the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, but the USA got off to a great start on searing Monday afternoon at the Hiroshima Big Arch Stadium, defeating Ghana 4-0 with three goals from forward Maya Hayes and an own goal that was earned when Morgan Brian smashed a header off the crossbar off a corner kick from Vanessa DiBernardo.
The U.S. team had Tuesday off, just doing regeneration at the team hotel, and will hit the field again on Wednesday to prepare for its second group match against China PR, taking place on Thursday, Aug. 23 at much cooler 7 p.m. local (6 a.m. ET) at the Big Arch.
The match will be broadcast live on ESPNU and ESPN3 with coverage beginning at 5:50 a.m. Fans can also follow on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and on Twitter at ussoccer_ynt.
With the USA facing China and Germany facing Ghana, and with both the USA and Germany earned 4-0 wins in their first games, these second round of group matches will go a long way to determining who will advance out of the Group D and into the quarterfinals.
