Bocanegra faces a big derby with St. Etienne-Lyon this Saturday
It's another weekend where U.S. internationals may get a chance to make an impact outside our borders, and some could be lining up against each other.
On Saturday, Michael Bradley is available for selection as Aston Villa takes on Blackpool, who sit just one point behind Villa in the league table. Jermaine Jones and Blackburn Rovers host Newcastle United with those sides level on points, the visitors holding the 10th spot based on a superior goal differential. Jonathan Spector hopes to return from a minor hamstring injury when West Ham United plays West Bromwich Albion in the first match under new manager and former Liverpool and Fulham boss Roy Hodgson. Eric Lichaj could debut for Leeds against Bristol City, the defender beginning a one-month loan to the League Championship contenders. Brad Guzan will likely line up in goal for Hull City, and could face fellow U.S. international Eddie Johnson if he gets the nod for Preston North End.
Up north, Maurice Edu and Rangers and play Motherwell hoping to close the five-point on league leaders Celtic. Meantime across the channel, Carlos Bocanegra engages in the local derby between St. Etienne and Lyon. The rivalry gets a little extra spice since the clubs are tied on 35 points and both are seeking to qualify for European competition next year. Oguchi Onyewu and Twente can pick up a valuable three points against Vitesse Arnhem as the continue the fight for the top spot in the Dutch Eredivisie. Just south in Belgium, Sacha Kljestan and RSC Anderlecht hope to keep their three-point lead at the top of the table when they host fourth place Club Brugge. In Mexico, the duo of Herculez Gomez and Jose Torres may see action for Pachuca when they take on Puebla. Jonathan Bornstein is looking to get another start in his early tenure at Tigres, who play host to Cruz Azul.
Start off your Sunday with another head-to-head match of U.S. MNT lads as Stuart Holden and Tim Howard square off when Bolton hosts Everton (FSC, 11 a.m. ET). In Germany, Steve Cherundolo and DaMarcus Beasley
are on the road as Hannover plays away to Werder Bremen. Meantime, Edson Buddle and FC Ingolstadt 04 face Fortuna Dusseldorf. In Turkey, Jozy Altidore looks for his first minutes with Bursaspor when they travel to Eskisehirspor.
Of course there's a sweetheart match on Valentine's Day where Clint Dempsey would love to elevate his EPL goal tally into double digits when Fulham welcomes London rivals Chelsea (ESPN2, 3 p.m. ET).
