Academy Players of the Week for the Week of April 12
Apr 15, 2010
U-15/16
Brandon Jordi
Club: North Meck SC
Position: Midfield
Despite playing with the U-17/18 team, Brandon Jordi was the difference maker for North Meck in their 1-1 draw at IMG Soccer Academy. Jordi stood out as the best player on the field due to his range of passing and tackling ability, and his 55th minute goal proved to be the equalizer that earned North Meck SC U-17/18 the draw.
The result helped maintain North Meck SC U-17/18’s place among the leaders of the South Conference’s Atlantic Division. The team has played four less games than South Conference leaders, Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre, and currently trail by only 7 points in the race at the top of the table. They host divisional opponent CASL Chelsea FC Academy on April 25.
This is the second time this season that Jordi has earned Academy Player of the Week honors.
U-17/18
Olakunle Banjo
Club: Potomac
Position: Forward
Olakunle Banjo’s late heroics pushed his side to victory against Seacoast United. After being down 2-0 at home, Banjo spurred his team on with a hat trick in a 20 minute span while also forcing an own goal to earn his team a dramatic, 5-2 come from behind victory. Banjo has been influential all season and his most recent performance increased his goal total to six goals in seven divisional games this year.
Potomac is now in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic table and in the coming weeks, has the opportunity to improve their position as they take to the road against divisional opponent D.C. United and conference opponents BW Gottschee NYC and Met Oval.
