Arizona United Rallies Past Portland Timbers U-23s in U.S. Open Cup
USL PRO Squad Overcomes Two-Goal Deficit in Final 10 Minutes to Advance to Third Round
CHICAGO (May 13, 2014) – USL PRO side Arizona United overcame a late two-goal deficit to edge the Portland Timbers U-23s (PDL) for a 3-2 victory in the Second Round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
That was the only second-round match on Tuesday as the rest of the field competes Wednesday night. The round also features a U.S. Open Cup “Game of the Round” match as RVA FC (National Premier Soccer League) hosts the Richmond Kickers (USL PRO) at Sports Backers Stadium. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET on ussoccer.com.
Arizona United trailed 2-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Kadeem Dacres cut the Timbers U-23s lead to 2-1 in the 85th minute, followed by a London Woodberry equalizer just three minutes later. Approximately five minutes into second-half stoppage time, Daniel Antunez scored the game-winner.
