Former Development Academy Player of the Year Dillon Powers scored twice to lead the Colorado Rapids to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday and was named mlssoccer.com’s Man of the Match.
Powers got the Rapids on the board in the fifth minute when he converted a penalty kick and scored in the 84th minute on an assist from Marlon Hairston, formerly of IMG Academy, for Colorado’s fourth goal of the game.
Defender Shane O’Neill also tallied a score for the Rapids. It was the first MLS goal for O’Neill, who represented the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Fagundez Nets Game-Winner: Diego Fagundez, formerly of New England Revolution’s Academy, was named mlssoccer.com Man of the Match as he scored the game-winner in the Revolution’s 2-1 victory against D.C. United on Saturday. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Elsewhere in MLS, LA Galaxy Academy product Gyasi Zardes scored a goal and recorded an assist to lift the Galaxy to a 2-1 win over FC Dallas Thursday. Chris Duvall, previously of the Concorde Fire, made his first MLS start with the New York Red Bulls in a 2-1 loss to Portland. It was his second appearance of the season and of his young career.
