CARSON, California (July 17, 2014) – The LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake AZ U-15/16 teams won their respective semifinal matches Thursday to advance to the title game of the 2013-14 Development Academy Championships.
Rey Ortiz scored three goals as the LA Galaxy edged Chicago Magic PSG 3-2. The Galaxy drew a penalty kick in second-half stoppage time and Ortiz completed his hat trick with a decisive shot fairly straight up the middle. Ortiz also scored the game’s opening goal in the 10th minute and tallied a 62nd-minute equalizer.
Luke Prpa and Kendall Stock scored in the 27th and 50th minutes, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead against the Galaxy.
Real Salt Lake AZ, which won last year’s U-15/16 title, had a decisive 5-1 victory against California-based Strikers FC. Sebastian Saucedo scored two late goals to put the match well out of reach. Saucedo was a member of Real Salt Lake AZ’s championship-winning team last year, recording a goal and an assist during the team’s win against Solar Chelsea SC.
Real Salt Lake AZ’s other goal scorers included Josh Doughty, Tate Schmitt, and Adolfo Ovalle with a 27th-minute game-winner.
The U-15/16 title game takes place at 4 p.m. PT on Saturday, July 19, at StubHub Center and will be shown live on usssoccer.com.
